HCP of Illinois, Inc.

The mission of HCP of Illinois

HCP’s mission is to help break the cycle of intergenerational poverty and promote racial and economic diversity in housing.

Where people live has a direct impact on their opportunities in life. Expanding the housing choices for very low income minority residents, from high poverty and racially segregated areas to areas of opportunity, is the primary means to realize our goal; to be sure that all residents have a chance to participate in the economic vitality of the region, become self-sufficient over time, realize better health outcomes, and provide their children with access to better performing schools and employment opportunities, in order to reduce the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

The National Public Radio story on CHA’s mobility program aired on WBEZ’s Marketplace on February 13, 2013. The article starts at HCP’s orientation for participants of the mobility program and ends with a story about a CHA resident who moved to an opportunity area in 2005 and now her daughter is graduating from college with a double major.
